MY SECRET PLAYLIST
Each week, we invite our favourite bands and musicians to give us the rundown on their eight favourite songs or albums right now. This is their words on the music that inspires them.
Syd Butler from Les Savy Fav
New York group Les Savy Fav take straight out indie, art rock sensibilities and skew them with their unique protagonist bent. Having formed some thirteen years ago, the five-piece have seen and heard it all. Well, nearly all, as the Playlist of bassist Syd Butler suggests.
Band Of Horses / No One's Gonna Love You Like I Do
I play this song all the time for my daughter and she likes to sing it as 'no one is going to love you like ADO'. Okay, yes, I love my daughter and I love this song. A perfect combo.

General Public / Tenderness
I know this is an older track, but it's been in my iTunes playlist recently and I forgot what a damn catchy song it is. You might remember it in the movies Weird Science or Clueless.

Abe Vigoda / Bear Face
A great new band from the Smell scene in Los Angeles. The song has a terrific urgency about it and it's really fun at the same time.

The Dodos / Red and Purple
This band gets better with every listen and with every time I get the chance to see them play. Les Savy Fav has played with them quite a bit and they never disappoint. This track is one of the highlights from their album, Visiter.

Cut Off Your Hands / Expectations
This is another new band that I've kept on my radar ever since I first heard them. They're an explosive live band and this one of the prime examples of their classic, angular assault. I'm really looking forward to their debut full length.

Tokyo Police Club / Juno
It's no surprise to me how popular this band has gotten. They are young guys from Toronto who are thirsty for musical acceptance. Juno is a short (under three minutes long) burst of melody and heart.

The Big Sleep / Pinkies
A crushing rock gem that gets better the louder you play it. If there's anything such as Rock Radio anymore, this shit should be all over it.

The Black Kids / I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You
These Florida kids came out of NOWHERE this past year to sell out UK tours, get a mountain of press, and a big record contract. This track is one of the showstoppers found on their first EP, which anyone who went to their MySpace profile could discover. Here's hoping their full length continues in this pleasant tradition.

The Story
Les Savy Fav
With their shock rock [of the indie variety], and at times bizarre stage presence of frontman Tim Harrington, Les Savy Fav are hardly fogettable. Really. Try it. Their most recent album, Let's Stay Friends, is a sledgehammer barrage of melodies, all scruffed up with distinctly industrial production touches.
